Van With a Plan provides Non-Emergent Medical Transportation (NEMT) in El Paso County and Teller County for those needing transportation to medical appointments. Van With a Plan drivers and staff have specialized training to work with individuals with developmental disabilities including Autism and other disabilities. Van with a Plan can also provide an escort to ride along with the individual in addition to the driver when requested.
Van with a Plan can transport to one time appointments such as primary care appointments, dental visits, or specialist appointments. Van With a Plan can also transport to reoccurring appointments such as Applied Behavior Analysis therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, or Speech Therapy.
For an individual to be eligible for NEMT services they must:
- Be a current Health First (Colorado Medicaid) client
- Be determined to not have access to other means of transportation including free transportation
- Require transportation to obtain a non-emergency Colorado Medicaid covered service.
Who qualifies for Non-Emergent Medical Transportation?
Non-emergent Medical Transportation is paid for by Health First Colorado and is covered for anyone who has Health First Colorado (Colorado Medicaid). This includes children with Medicaid!
Non-Emergent Medical Transportation (NEMT) is transportation to and from covered non-emergency medical appointments or services. NEMT is only available when a Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid Program) member has no other means of transportation.
Can a family member ride with the person requesting transportation?
Yes!
What sort of training do the drivers and support staff have that makes Van With a Plan prepared to successfully transport individuals with special needs?
Our drivers have experience driving individuals with special needs and occasional severe behavior. They know how to work on a team with the support staff and family members. They have received training in de-escalation, behavioral de-escalation techniques, and in working with children and adults with special needs. Please reach out with additional questions on specific trainings that we require and provide to our drivers.
What areas of El Paso County do you provide transportation to?
We provide transportation to all areas of El Paso County, and also have routes going to Teller County. This includes Peyton, Falcon, Monument, and Fountain in El Paso County and Woodland Park and Divide in Teller County.
Are car seats provided?
Car seats can be provided when requested.
What if my child uses a harness or needs extra time due to behaviors exhibited during transportation?
That’s ok! Van With a Plan specializes in providing transportation to individuals who sometimes struggle to stay calm when riding in vehicles. Please indicate this to us when setting up your ride, and we will plan for extra time and extra staff if needed.
Does Van with a Plan provide transportation for those with Health First Colorado who do not have developmental disabilities?
Yes!
